About IELTS
IELTS is the International English Language Testing System, the world’s proven English language test. It was one of the pioneers of four skills English language testing over 25 years ago, and continues to set the standard for English language testing today. It is accepted as evidence of English language proficiency by over 9,000 organizations worldwide. Last year, more than 2.2 million tests were taken globally. IELTS is recognized as a secure, valid and reliable indicator of true-to-life ability to communicate in English for education, immigration and professional accreditation. It is jointly owned by British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia and Cambridge English Language Assessment through more than 1,000 test centers and locations in over 140 countries.

IELTS has two versions
- The Academic Module: This module is intended for candidates seeking entry to a university or institution of higher education offering degree and diploma courses (i.e. those seeking undergraduate or postgraduate courses).
- The General Training Module: This module is meant for candidates seeking immigration to an English speaking country.
The two versions do not carry the same weight and are not interchangeable. All candidates are tested on reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. Whereas the speaking and listening sections are common for the Academic and General versions of the test, the Reading and Writing sections are different.
The test has four components – Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking. You will receive a band score for each component as well as an overall band score.
